Brilliant hub — great value, easy SSD upgrade, solid real-world speeds
This hub came with a short 10Gbps USB-C cable, a couple of rubber grommets to hold the SSD in place, 3M thermal pads, and a stick-on magnetic ring that lets you attach it pretty much anywhere. Just to be clear — it's not MagSafe in terms of power or data transfer, just a convenient way to attach the hub. Works perfectly with my MacBook, iPad Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro. I installed a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Pro NVMe SSD (it supports up to 8TB). Using the Blackmagic Speed Test app I got 963 MB/s write and 856 MB/s read — very respectable. I was also able to attach external USB drives to the hub's ports without needing the PD port when connected to a MacBook Pro or iPad Pro M5. After transferring over 300GB of files the case got warm but never exceeded 38°C. Speeds throttled back by about 10% — totally acceptable thermal management. What I love most is that you install your own SSD — massive advantage over competitors that ship with a fixed, non-upgradable SSD at a much higher price. And this one has both a full-sized SD and microSD card reader, which is brilliant when travelling with my DSLR. I back up photos directly to the hub's SSD and edit on the go. HDMI not yet tested. Overall, excellent value for money.
